“Ni Ni Ya Mo Mo is an Arabic nursery rhyme that I grew up with. It’s the first thing I think of when I try to remember what my father left me.”
This lullaby may seem trivial, but its lively and figurative dimension offer a point of access to a whole heritage. Reciting the lullaby continues the passing on of that heritage.
With this sweet memory, Guilhem Chatir captures a universal moment: that of going to bed and the rituals that surround it. Through this fresco for three dancers and a live DJ, the choreographer creates a common space from which our childhood memories can emerge, to unearth our cultural heritage and explore our rituals of sleep.
