La Beauté du Geste
Théâtre des 13 vents – CDN de Montpellier
At the heart of this project are the CRSs, the French Republican Security Companies, the police units used for crowd control. Five performers play the roles of the CRSs : using their moves, uniforms and weapons, they play their parts beautifully without trying to denunciate or create a distance.
How can an artist come up with such an idea ? In the first half of the evening, you will meet a group of people discussing the relationship between arts and politics and how they’re looking for an example to illustrate their theories. Torn between the daily news that command their personal rebellions and the idea theatre that made them artists, they look at the back bone of contemporary history. They make connections and digressions, they try things out, Shakespeare things out, get lost and finally find what they were looking for. Their through-line will be the CRSs.
When you take your part too seriously, you might get side-tracked. So, in the second half, the five performers are in court. They are accused of provoking riots, disturbing the public order. But can you seriously blame someone who was just doing what they were told to do ?
