This is a good story, as Adina Secretan ironically puts it in the title of her exposé of Nestlégate, the spy scandal involving the Swiss food processing multinational in the 2000s.
A story that’s all the more mind-blowing because it’s completely true. The story in question is the Nestlé group’s infiltration of the anti-globalisation movement ATTAC (Association for the Taxation of Financial Transactions and for Citizen Action) while the organisation was investigating the Swiss corporate giant’s murky activities.
So, is Nestlégate a case solved? Don’t be so sure, says Adina Secretan, even though the case has been through the courts. This highly researched and masterfully executed detective story masterfully uses theatre as a tool for citizen repair and reclamation.
