KABYLIFORNIE

Kabylifornie is a portmanteau (blended expression) that combines Agathe Yamina Meziani’s Kabyle origins and her “Californian” aspirations, in the sense of a metaphor for her hopes and dreams. With her biting style, Yamina builds a one-woman show from elements of performance, theatre and stand-up influences. Three distinct elements, backed by a wide-ranging soundtrack and an arrangement designed with visual artist Ji Min Park.

Between childhood memories, interior dialogues and images from her computer, her side-trackings explore the different layers of time. Yamina plays with temporalities to summon fragments of her story. Kabylifornie is a brilliant journey full of references, where humour facilitates an exploration of identity heritage and family ties.
