Habib Ben Tanfous turns karaoke – Japanese for “empty orchestra” – into a space of transformation. In it, five unique characters lay themselves bare, between songs, confessions, outbursts and restrained impulses, in a constant struggle between the social collective and the desire to tell their story.
More than just a bit of fun here, karaoke becomes a space for revelation, re-invention and connection, where people allow themselves to break free from norms, suspend judgment and free themselves from the expectation of perfection.
The show creates a vibrant celebration of vulnerability that transforms our emotional excesses into theatrical and choreographic material that is alive, unsettling and deeply human. For the length of a song, each individual tries to revisit their own story or else to find – in the voice and gaze of others – a different way to be.
Five solidarity tickets at €5 will be set aside for each performance of performing arts projects (with some exceptions). Please email reservation@halles.be
