LA FABRIQUE DU COMMUN
Véronique Dockx
We will be hearing from a lawyer. After studying law and specialising in the philosophy of law, Véronique Dockx spent fifteen years defending exiles at the Brussels Bar. Since 2018, following a severe burnout (in her own words), she has been exploring new horizons. As a transdisciplinary artist, she sees her practice as an experimental laboratory, seeking hybrid forms and formats that allow for a different approach to law and justice, through philosophy and the performing arts. At the heart of the project lies an observation: the confiscation of law and justice, and a societal urgency to reclaim what has been taken from us, to defend our inalienable rights with justice as an ideal, as a way of building society. Through a sensitive, collective stage performance, we equip ourselves to reclaim our power together. Through an immersive setup, the stage becomes a place of justice. Participants are invited to experience this. To reflect together and rebuild collectively. The central theme of the performance is collapse. Both the collapse of the physical structure and that of the judicial institution. Collapse as the consequence of a senseless and unsustainable policy. But also, and above all, as an opportunity for change, for rebuilding. What kind of justice do we want? What place and role should it have within society? And how can we bring it about? All around us, everything points to an imminent collapse. Unless it has already happened? What if the collapse were a chance to rethink and restructure everything?
