Des amoures chiennes aux amour-lichen

Oriane Lautel

DES AMOURES CHIENNES AUX AMOUR-LICHEN is a journey in several episodes. A character as unique as she is common, Eco, invites us to a family meal. She is talkative and, though full of anachronisms, it is delicious. She is uninhibited and voracious. We find ourselves in her hut, which looks like a poorly erected fairground marquee, though it is in fact the ridges of an ancient mineral. She speaks with her mouth full. She drools; we salivate.

“Building on the feminist premise that our family, romantic and sexual relationships are political, and can be spaces of violence, the artist has decided to rewrite new fictions based on her own stories. She wants to swallow the world and make us a whole. Thus was born Eco, her fictional double, who allows her to tell stories without taboos. Then, other characters and their chimeras were born. This writing is the origin of a talkative circus project. How do desire and violence coexist within the same body? Sometimes indistinguishable.”

Oriane Lautel is an author and performing artist. She comes from nowhere and tries to be everywhere at once. She learnt to sew whilst studying for a Master’s in Costume Design and Production, then went on to study at the Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris. She subsequently discovered her body as a machine at ÉSAC in Brussels through fixed trapeze. Today she combines these skills to create hybrid and spectacular projects, always in close collaboration with other artists.

In 2022, she co-created her first circus show with Camille Granger: Le Cri du bombyx. She sees her projects as woven from the same fabric: in 2024, the time will come to let a new stage project take shape: DES AMOURES CHIENNES AUX AMOUR-LICHEN.
