A proof of existance by ifHuman

We believe that solidarity is created with action but that we can also feed and strengthen it through rituals. Ours today: is to make a film!

The subject is this enforced solitude that we find ourselves being made to live through.

We would like to talk about it through a series of ritualised actions which we’ll share and invent with you.

So that we do not give into fear.

So that we can stay together, or better still so that we can find out what this time means to us.

So that we can continue to keep alive our creative world which today is at a standstill and which we don’t know how we are going to carry on tomorrow.

So that we can resist.

So that we can feel less all.one.

Our action is a collective one and we need your help: PARTICIPATING IS SIMPLE.

IT'S AN INVITATION TO FILM YOURSELF, ALONE AND/OR IN COMPANY OF PEOPLE AND/OR ANIMALS WITH WHOM YOU ARE SHARING THIS QUARANTINE.

SCENES TO FILM

1. WINDOW

Choose a window in your home where you can see the outside world.

Film the window open and closed.

Frame: Make sure that you frame the image in landscape mode not portrait mode

Timing: 40''  for each shot.

File name: WINDOWOPEN_LastnameName

File name: WINDOWCLOSED_LastnameName

2. POINT OF VULNERABILITY

Close your eyes for a moment and find the most vulnerable part of your body, for example your Achilles heel…

We would like a shot where you show your point of vulnerability to the camera by placing your two hands on it and / or by showing the skin of this part of the body. Your gaze should be either turned upwards, towards the camera or to the point itself, you choose.

The style we want is like a postcard or portrait from the early twentieth century or like a statue.

Frame: Full shot/full body, but still in landscape mode.

Timing: 40''

File name: POINT_LastnameName

3. RITUAL OF THE WATER

Here we’d like you to film yourselves as you wash your hands, singing Happy Birthday in your mother tongue.

Frame: We would like to have the point of view of the wash basin/sink.

(just put your smartphone on the sink, more or less behind the stream of the water, so that we can see you doing the action)

Timing: 40''

File name: WATER_LastnameName

4. DANCE WITH SOMEONE WHO'S NOT THERE

Close your eyes. Think of someone who is not physically with you but who you’d like to dance with…

We’d like you to film yourself while you imagine yourself holding hands with this person or taking this person in your arms and dancing with them! It's up to you to choose what type of dance.

Frame: As you wish.

Timing: 40''-60''max.

File name: DANCE_LastnameName

5. MAKE A WISH

Shoot yourself while you make a silent wish.

Frame: Close up on your face.

Timing: 40 sec.

File name: WISH_LastnameName

If you do not live all.one, you can choose to shoot the films with your housemates, do this by either shooting collective scenes or one for each member of the house!

For the most daring: there is a longer list of actions to be filmed. Do not hesitate to contact us at ifhuman.cie@gmail.com for a massive participation!!!

The performers of the If Human company will join you in doing the same, with some other surprises.

The film will be shared via the social media channels of Les Halles de Schaerbeek.
