JAG ET JOHNNY

Jag and Johnny is an encounter: between the language of Laurène Marx and the orality of performer Jessica Guilloud. Without slipping into misery porn, Jessica evokes those places of childhood—teenage bedrooms, grandparents’ living rooms, community halls—where she feels at ease, while knowing she no longer belongs there. Oscillating between the traumatic story of her dog Johnny and her own journey, she questions the guilt born from rejecting her culture of origin. Through the sharpness of the narrative and the precision of its address, Laurène Marx moves away from a sociological reading of class mobility and its academic vocabulary, highlighting that one does not seamlessly move from one social class to another as if on a springboard, but may sometimes remain stuck in between.
